Route Cinder Track, Hawsker, Gnipe Howe Farm, Beacon Hill.
Distance 10.5 Miles
Difficulty, Easy
Weather Bright to start, quite cold. strong breeze.
A few more miles closer to my target which , after today's run now stands at a mere 22.7 miles.
I took the chance of riding along the Cinder track but I found that I had to contend with a very dirty surface after the rain showers from the previous night, but I did not worry about that too much because I intend to take the bike off the road as soon as the festivities are over, and give it a much needed going over. I was quite enjoying the ride until I reached Gnipe Howe Farm. Until then I had a tail wind and the only problem I had to contend with was having the sun in my eyes from time to time, once I reached the farm though, the route began to turn for home and it was only then that I saw the storm clouds rapidly approaching from along the Esk Valley. Within the next mile, it hit me and I was struggling against a full gale with sleet and hail driving so hard that it was impossible to look ahead. Within minutes I was soaking wet through and as cold as I have been for a long time. On the plus side, all the muck and s*** that the bike collected on the Cinder Track was washed away so it was not all bad. By the time I got back into Whitby things had eased but I had to ride the last couple of miles looking (and feeling) like a drowned rat. The ironic thing is that for the last week or two Mal and myself have been saying how fortunate we have been with the weather this year but we spoke too soon.
