Route Green Lane, Hawsker, Fylingthorpe, Boggle Hole, Redgates.
Distance 18.6
Difficulty Moderate but some stiff climbs
Weather Some cloud & quite cool
Company Mal & Adrian.
We started our ride today with a climb up green Lane, this is not a massive hill but is not the easiest way to start a ride. Once at the top we turned towards Hawser and Fylingthorpe heading into a strong breeze which was enough to slow us down considerably. Once we had reached Fylingthorpe we turned along Middlewood Lane and followed it to Boggle Hole. Surprisingly, in spite of driving a taxi in the area for many years, this was the first time that I had passed this way since my late teens. Shortly before Boggle Hole, the road actually follows the bed of a stream for about 100 yards or so which made riding a little difficult. Mal managed to get his feet wet but we all stayed in the saddle. On the way back to Whitby we had another vicious climb up Sledgates bank but the reward is a thrash along past Redgates and down to Ruswarp and the last hill of the day. I found it to be a hard day but as always, very enjoyable. I now have only 33.2 miles to go to achieve my target for the year.
