Our outing today took us up to Danby Beacon by way of Hutton Mulgrave, Stonegates & then along the aptly named, Stony Lane for the last 2.4 miles up to the beacon. This lane is surfaced for the most part with loose stones and has a number of potholes along its length. It climbs steadily, but not steeply all the way to the beacon and today we found it to be hard work due to the breeze in our faces and the loose surface. Once we reached the beacon and back onto a metalled surface there was a vast improvement with a slight downhill grade and a tail wind to help us along. We returned to Whitby by way of Egton & Aislaby along what is now the usual muddy lanes.
