There was definitely a touch of winter in the air this morning, there was a strong northerly breeze and the air had a damp feel about it. We took the rather damp & muddy country lanes towards Kettleness and had to endure a head wind most of the way. as we approached the first of two fords on our route we found that the stream was a little swollen and the water which usually passes through pipes under the road was actually about three inches deep. The second ford was in flood too only this one was was deeper and the road was flooded for several yards. We contemplated using the footbridge but then decided to take a chance and we both got our feet splashed in the process. Because Mal's time was limited we simply turned round at Kettleness and with a tail wind we began our ride home via West Banby. We still had to contend with the two fords but found that in the space of 30 minutes or so, the water level had dropped considerably and one of the fords was almost completely dry. We still had some muddy sections of road to contend with but that was not a problem.
