Distance 25.5 miles
Hight gained 1996 ft
Difficulty Moderate
Weather Quite breezy with broken cloud
Company, Mal
After meeting up at Stakesby Terminus, we set off into a stiff head wind with the intention of going to Borrowby. It was quite cool to start with but once we got into rhythm we warmed up enough to make us comfortable. Our rout as usual took us through Dunsley, Ugthorpe & Mickleby where we took the main A174, for a fast dash down Ellerby Bank before turning off along Newton Lane to the hamlet of Newton Mulgrave which these days consists of four houses and three farms, there was a time though when the place warranted its own police station so the population must have been a lot higher. Just past Newton Mulgrave we realised that we were running short of time so we decided to turn back and made our way back to Whitby along the main road. Although only eight miles or so, this was perhaps the longest stretch of road without a significant climb that we had tackled all year, and with a tail wind we flew back to town.
