Distance 13.6 miles Hight gained 1962 ft
Weather Very cold at first but milder later. Overcast with lighter intervals.
Difficulty Easy on Cinder Track but difficult on parts of the Cleveland Way,
Company, Solo
Route Cinder Track to Robin Hoods Bay then Cleveland Way Back to Whitby.
When I left Home it was quite frosty but within a few minutes I began to warm up and enjoy the walk. Once more I stuck to one of my regular routes taking the Cinder Track as far as Robin Hoods Bay before joining the Cleveland Way for the return to Whitby.
There were quite a few other people abroad and on the cinder track I would say that the joggers outnumbered walkers by about 3 to 1. There were several cyclist and a couple of horses too. Once on the Cleveland way I stopped for a sandwich at a spot overlooking the Bay but I did not linger long because of the cold. About the first thing I noticed when I started again was that the path was extremely slippery in places and at least 50% of the people I passed had mud stain’s, usually on their backsides. Fortunately I managed to stay more or less upright most of the time so the only mud that I was carrying was on my feet and ankles.
