Distance 14.4 miles
Climbing 1221 ft
Difficulty Easy
Weather Overcast with a threat of rain.
My route today was quite simply a more or less direct route from Glaisdale to Trough House and return by the same route. I left Glaisdale by way of Glaisdale Rigg along a lane surfaced with loose stones which gradually climbed from the village until it met with the Lealholme to Rosedale road which I followed in a southerly direction as far as a modern gate which opens onto Glaisdale Moor. As I was walking along I began to meet small groups of walkers who were doing the Coast to Coast and I suspect that they had for the most part spent the night at the Lion Inn at Blakey. I noticed that most of the people that I met were probably on the wrong side of sixty, but almost without exception they were striding along in fine stile. The weather was not very pleasant, being overcast and threatening to rain most of the time causing me to be constantly either putting on, or taking off my waterproof jacket until I got fed up and carried on in a Tee shirt and shorts which was by far the best solution.
After passing through the gate onto Glaisdale Moor, the track went around the head of Fryupdale and on to Trough House where I stopped for lunch before returning by the same route.
